Taipei Zoo is a relaxing place to spend a day with family, kids or a partner. Services inside the park are convenient: there are McDonald’s, MOS Burger, 7-Eleven and Hi-Life outlets, ATMs, stroller and wheelchair rental, and lockers for your bags.
We spent a whole day here and the big animals were lively, eating and moving around. We happened to see a giant panda chewing bamboo in the outdoor area. It is a great place for children to learn about animals, and every visit turns up something new.
The Tropical Rainforest House is especially well designed. It is an open, airy space with plenty of natural light, and the animals look comfortable. You can watch a sloth climb right past you or see playful otters up close, and capybaras and brown spider monkeys share an enclosure in a charming way.
The zoo is large, so pick up a map at the entrance. One good plan is to walk uphill first and then take the shuttle train or the Maokong Gondola back down. Another is to ride the shuttle train up and stroll slowly down and out.
Practical tips
- Tickets: Regular admission is NT$100. The resident ticket is NT$60 and requires ID. The in-park shuttle train costs NT$5 per ride.
- Parking: On weekends we recommend the Muzha Airport lot at NT$120 per entry. Most other nearby lots charge NT$60 per hour.
- By MRT: Take the Wenhu (brown) Line to Taipei Zoo Station, the terminus. If you carry an EasyCard you can skip the ticket counter.
